# Common Problems with Lead Distribution Software for Lead Sellers

Lead distribution software problems lead sellers face: unsold leads, conflicting routing rules, underpriced leads, slow delivery, and buyer setup work.

The phrase "lead distribution" carries two meanings. On a B2B sales team, it describes sending inbound leads from a website to the right sales rep. For a lead seller, it describes sending each lead to one or more buyers who pay for it. [What is lead distribution software?](https://blog.clickpointsoftware.com/what-is-lead-distribution-software) explains both uses of the term.

ClickPoint Software makes LeadExec, lead distribution software for lead sellers and enterprise organizations distributing leads internally. Lead sellers work with a price on every lead and a separate set of rules for every buyer. The problems they run into come from those two facts.

Lead seller problems fall into five groups: leads that find no eligible buyer, routing rules that conflict as a seller adds buyers, leads that sell for less than they could, slow delivery to buyers, and buyer setups that take too much work. Enterprise teams that distribute leads to branches and dealers face a related set.

## Why do leads go unsold or get lost?

A lead goes unsold when it matches no eligible buyer, or when the post to a buyer fails and the software has no next step. A buyer can reject the lead, time out, or reach its daily cap. With no retry and no fallback route, the lead sits unsold. LeadExec supports retries and fallback routing, which give a failed lead another chance to reach an eligible buyer.

A retry handles a temporary failure, such as a buyer endpoint that returns an error or times out. A fallback route sends the lead to an alternate buyer or campaign when the first choice rejects it or has reached its cap.

Leads from outside a buyer's service area face the same risk of going unsold. [Out-of-area lead thresholds and secondary buyer networks](https://blog.clickpointsoftware.com/out-of-area-lead-thresholds-and-secondary-buyer-networks) covers how sellers set tolerance thresholds and route those leads to secondary buyers.

The LeadExec case study for Weboganic reports no lead losses over 10 years.

## Why do routing rules conflict as a seller adds buyers?

Routing rules conflict when one routing method has to serve every buyer. A seller might start with round-robin across three buyers, then add a buyer that pays more, a buyer that covers only a few states, and a buyer that takes only higher-quality leads. Round-robin has no way to express those terms, so the seller adds manual exceptions until the exceptions contradict each other.

Lead routing decides where a lead goes, and lead distribution sends it there.

Each buyer group needs a routing method that matches its terms: price for buyers who compete on price, geography for buyers with service areas, and quality for buyers who pay for higher-quality leads.

LeadExec supports price-based, priority, weighted, percentage, round-robin, waterfall, concurrent, geographic, and quality-based routing.

[Which lead routing method is best for lead providers?](https://blog.clickpointsoftware.com/which-lead-routing-method-is-best) compares lead routing methods and the situations each one fits.

## Why does a lead sell for less than it could?

A lead sells for less than it could when the software accepts the first bid or sends leads to buyers in a fixed order. The first buyer to accept may pay less than another eligible buyer, and one exclusive sale may bring in less than several shared sales. Real-time ping-post bidding and revenue optimization let the seller compare the eligible options before the lead goes out.

In ping-post, the seller sends partial lead data to eligible buyers, each buyer returns a bid or a rejection, and the full lead posts to the selected buyer. [Setting up ping-post and ping tree for real-time lead distribution](https://blog.clickpointsoftware.com/ping-post) walks through the setup.

LeadExec Revenue Optimization selects the eligible scenario with the greater combined revenue. For example, 3 semi-exclusive buyers at $40 each bring in $120, so Revenue Optimization selects them over 1 exclusive buyer at $100.

Lendilio recorded a 25% increase in average lead selling price with LeadExec.

## Why does delivery to buyers take too long?

Delivery takes too long when leads wait in batches, pass through custom scripts, or go to buyers one at a time until one accepts. Each delay hands the buyer an older lead and pushes back first contact. Lead distribution software has to post leads in real time and collect buyer responses in parallel, so the lead reaches an accepting buyer within seconds of arrival.

Lendilio recorded a 40% reduction in delivery and acceptance time with LeadExec.

A national financial services provider using LeadExec reduced lead delivery from hours to seconds.

Measuring delivery and acceptance time per buyer shows where leads wait. [Reporting and analytics in lead distribution software](https://blog.clickpointsoftware.com/lead-distribution-reporting) covers those reports.

## Why do integrations and buyer setups take so much work?

Integrations take work because each buyer sets its own posting specification, with its own fields, formats, endpoints, and responses. A seller with dozens of buyers builds and tests a separate delivery for each one, and any change on the buyer's side reopens that work. LeadExec AI Assist automates outbound posting and lead delivery setup.

Buyer onboarding also sets the terms that routing depends on. [Reducing lead returns through buyer onboarding and SLA-based routing](https://blog.clickpointsoftware.com/buyer-onboarding-sla-based-routing-cut-lead-returns-40) covers which buyer details to collect before the first lead goes out.

## What do enterprise teams sending leads to branches and dealers run into?

Enterprise organizations that send leads to internal destinations face the same routing and delivery problems as lead sellers. Each lead has to reach the right branch, franchise, dealer, or regional office, under rules for territory, capacity, and schedules. A lead that goes to the wrong location, or waits in a batch, sits unworked. Enterprise organizations have used LeadExec since 2007 to distribute leads to branches, franchises, dealers, and regional offices.

LeadExec has distributed 115M+ leads since 2007.

A national financial services provider using LeadExec reports 40% lower software maintenance costs and 35% more digital lead volume.

## Frequently asked questions

### What are common problems with lead distribution software for lead sellers?

Lead sellers run into five common problems: leads with no eligible buyer, routing rules that conflict as a seller adds buyers, leads that sell for less than they could, slow delivery to buyers, and buyer setups that take too much work. Each one traces to how the software handles routing, bidding, delivery, and buyer integrations.

### How does lead distribution software keep leads from going unsold?

Retries and fallback routing give a lead another chance when the first post fails or the buyer rejects it. LeadExec supports both. The LeadExec case study for Weboganic reports no lead losses over 10 years.

### Why do routing rules conflict in lead distribution software?

Rules conflict when one method, such as round-robin, has to serve buyers with different prices, service areas, and quality terms. LeadExec supports price-based, priority, weighted, percentage, round-robin, waterfall, concurrent, geographic, and quality-based routing.

### How can a lead seller get a higher price per lead?

Real-time ping-post bidding compares buyer bids before the full lead posts, and LeadExec Revenue Optimization selects the eligible scenario with the greater combined revenue. Lendilio recorded a 25% increase in average lead selling price with LeadExec.

### How fast should lead distribution software deliver leads to buyers?

Lead distribution software should deliver leads in real time and collect buyer responses in parallel. Lendilio recorded a 40% reduction in delivery and acceptance time with LeadExec, and a national financial services provider using LeadExec reduced lead delivery from hours to seconds.
